We have a great team here at Genco with a wide range of skills and experience. This month we’re catching up with Thomas Bray, business development director.
Thomas shares his experience in the sector, from his first role in the industry at a lighting company, through to the new innovations and expansion into the Internet of Things and smart systems here at Genco.
Take it away Thomas…
How did you get into the construction/electrical contracting sector?
I did a gap year pre-university for a lighting company, I then ended up owning the company which I sold in 2012.
Can you think of one thing about working at Genco that others should know?
We’re not just about electrical contracting – we have a significant manufacturing business specialising in bespoke solutions for lighting, controls and smart IoT systems.
What’s one quality you need to thrive in this environment (especially at Genco)?
Drive and determination – I’d say this is key to success in any environment.
Tell us your favourite thing about working at Genco.
My brilliant colleagues – the most important thing in any company.
What have you been working on recently that you’re proud of?
The lighting and control systems for Orangebox’s Campers and Dens modular office pod range. We’ve advanced into the Internet of Things (IoT) taking a huge step towards connected and integrated systems.
What’s your advice to people who might like to do a job like yours?
Work hard and smart! Share information and make sure you’re always bringing someone else onboard to be able to do your job. If you don’t have someone who can do the job you do now, you can never really move on to the position you want to be in the future.
What do you like to do when you’re not at work?
I enjoy fixing and making things in my spare time.
