Solar Panel Install
Genco HQ

Overview:

In order to stay on track with our pledge to reduce our carbon footprint, we decided to install Solar Panels on our HQ roof. This commitment is part of a whole host of improvements we’ve made recently, to continually reduce our impact, as set out in our annual sustainability plan.

The Challenge:

The main challenge for this project was trying to complete it whilst the office was fully operational. This meant two things; the work needed to be completed within a week and it needed to be completed with at little disruption as possible.

Extra steps were taken to ensure the health and safety of all operatives, and office based employees, to limit risks to a minimum.

Due to the size of the car park, the telehandler and scaffolding had to be organised and manoeuvred from the main road. Which in turn closed access to the car park for employees.

The Solution:

For this project we opted to fit the Trina Solar 425 watt module. As our roof is 35 degrees off directional south, we used the Clenergy PV-ezRack Solar Roof Pro mounting equipment. For the inverter we installed the Solax technology.

The solar panels are monitored via the Solax Cloud system which is easily accessed via the app. In addition to the app, all information is relayed onto a remote screen in our HQ reception area.

We believe that sharing this information with employees, and visitors alike further highlights our commitment to a greener future.

Outcomes:

We were able to install a high performing remote monitored system, with 33.15kWp solar panels, in under a week. This system should last upwards of 25 years.

The solar panels will reduce our annual costs by approximately £4,500 in the first year, with an annual CO2 saving of 5631kg. This would be equivalent to a car journey of 20,111 miles annually or CO2 being absorbed by as many as 258 trees.

EV Chargers

Overview:

To continue with the Kirklees Climate Change Action Plan (CCAP) and its ambition to be Net Zero and Climate Ready by 2038, Genco were asked to source and install multiple new EV chargers in a temporary location to charge their electric van fleet.

The Challenge:

To supply and fit the most economical and cost friendly option as well as ensuring each charger was user friendly with longevity.                                                 

The location of the chargers also meant works would be close to public spaces so mess, noise and disruption would need to be kept as minimal as possible.

Due to other works being completed, time was of the essence on this job so needed to be completed as quickly as possible for the client to ensure no hold-ups or delays to other aspects of the job.

The Solution:

After looking at the spec, Genco sourced and installed 11x new “Project EV” 32A single phase EV charge points.

Through doing this, the cost and economical aspect were both met along with the charge points meeting the current government specifications.

The selected chargers installed also have a market leading warranty and different accessory options, giving the client peace of mind for years to come with the ability to adapt as and when required with new technologies.

Outcomes:

The chosen charge points have multiple mode control such as app, plug and go and RFID swipe card, ensuring they are keeping up with the user friendly aspect and allowing multiple options when it comes to control over usage.

From receipt of purchase order to job completion, the time frame was under two weeks meaning the client project timeframe was not disrupted and our work men were in and out quickly and efficiently.

Stanley Library PV
Equans

Overview:

Stanley Library is based in the Metropolitan Borough of Wakefield in West Yorkshire, England. A place to read, learn, connect and relax with thousands of books to choose from, free internet access and plenty of learning opportunities.

Working on behalf of Equans, a provider of technical, FM, regeneration and energy services – with specialist capabilities in smart buildings, green mobility, district & embedded energy and decentralised renewables.

The Challenge:

As this was our first solar installation project for Equans, we wanted to take extra steps to ensure the clients aspirations were achievable with the design and installation. Throughout the project, we developed a great working relationship with Equans, gaining in trust with the system we proposed.

This was a live site as the library was open throughout the project, meaning extra precautions were in place to avoid any incidents. This meant ensuring all sub-contractor labour, materials and equipment were in the right place at the right time.

The Solution:

Genco provided onsite project management supervision, to ensure that there were no disruptions with the everyday activities of the library. Dean, with his decades of Solar PV experience, was able to provide regular updates to our client offering piece of mind with regards to the installation.

Utilising MCS accredited panels and inverters, we designed a system capable of providing data externally via public display screens. Highlighting the libraries and councils commitment to reducing their carbon footprint.

Outcomes:

The installation carried out by Heron Electrical (a sub-contractor known and trusted for many years) was completed well within the project timescale and to the required standard. The system is producing the required amount of energy leading to notable savings for the client.
